Mindfulness in Honolulu

Latest sangha picture

As Christmas and New Years both fall on Thursdays- our next meeting is January 8, 2026.

Weekly Group Sessions in Palolo

We practice Buddhist insight meditation, also known as mindfulness meditation. This is a simple, effective, and down to earth approach.

We began meeting weekly back in 1998 for meditation and discussions. These events are always free.

We meet Thursdays, 6:00 to 7:30 PM, at our home in Pālolo Valley.

We start our meetings with a short period of standing qigong followed by two twenty-five minute sitting meditation sessions. We then have a break, followed by a short talk, with time for questions or discussion.

These weekly meetings are very beginner-friendly. They’re also a good way to introduce this simple practice to a friend who may be curious about your interest in mindfulness meditation.

Due to parking and space limitations, we are now requiring folks to follow new guidelines.

New guidelines

Address and Parking

Note: the front door opens around 5:50 PM, as we are preparing our space for you. If you arrive early, please wait quietly by the front door, in consideration for our landlord in the house right in front of ours.

Our address is 2439 Holomua Place, #A, in upper Palolo Valley, adjacent to the Palolo Chinese Home.

NOTE–> Some GPS systems are in error and locate our place on the wrong side of Wai‘ōma‘o Stream. Our home is on the Palolo Chinese home side.

Driving into Palolo Valley on 10th Avenue- turn right on Makanui Place then turn left on Holomua Place.

Find parking, then walk to to end of Holomua Place, where you will see a downward sloping driveway at the end of the street-> it’s a cul-de-sac. Walk down that driveway and find our house on the far end of the driveway.

It would be ideal (but not mandatory) to park on 10th Avenue and walk six to eight minutes to our home. If walking is a problem please contact us through the contact form on this site so we can arrange limited parking for you.

Cushions and chairs

  • We have a limited supply of meditation cushions. There will be some chairs available, plus two long benches and a couch.

Consideration for our landlord/ neighbor

  • As you enter and leave our place, please be mindful that the owner of our home lives close by in the next house, so kindly keep conversations in a low tone.

Thank you for sending this newsletter. Jack Kornfield’s talk contained much wisdom and brought up many important questionstions related to spiritual practices and social action.

I would also like to strongly endorse the idea of making the Thursday evening sessions available on Zoom. Due to age and related medical issues, I am unbable to attend the meditation sessions in person but would very much like to the chance to become part of this community.

    Thank you,

    Richsrd Wark

Hi Richard. Just seeing your comment, thanks, and yes, I am trying to work out some scheduling issues before committing to weekly Zoom sessions, which would be at some other time slot, as running a Zoom session while at the same hosting a live meditation evening at our home is not easy to pull off as a one person operation. I will keep you posted (it might have to wait until I retire in March, 2024, though). Much appreciate your thoughts, Richard, many thanks.

      1. Cassandre

Do keep us posted on the zoom sessions. I attended a meditation in late November/early December and it was transformational. I hope to continue attending even if not in person.

        1. Tom Davidson-Marx

          Hi Cassandre,
Sorry, just seeing this comment (gotta fix this notification thing…)
Yes, most definitely I am getting organized for Zoom and will notify everyone via the email newsletter. Thanks for asking, Cassandre, and for your kind words. Wishing you well, t.

I have enjoyed your online zoom meditation in the past
I cannot be there physically. Are your zoom mtgs still accessible in the evening?

    1. Tom Davidson-Marx

Hi Marie. I am so sorry I am just now seeing this… and, no, we never did re-start the Zoom seesions, but you just gave me an idea to think about. I will let folks know via the newsletter if this happens. Thanks, Marie.
